What do you do when your inexpensive, custom vacuum formed over‑cap causes you problems in processing? You look for opportunities to improve the product without adding to your costs.
Production of Purina’s new Beneful premium soft dog food was just taking off when over‑cap problems set in. The vacuum-formed cap was dimensionally inconsistent and caused capping issues in production. It also lacked the “premium” look Purina was after.
The Result: The Silgan Specialty Packaging Team collaborated with Purina to develop a new thin‑walled, injection molded over‑cap. Made from clarified polypropylene and produced in a high‑speed dedicated cell, this new closure gave Purina the premium look they wanted, provided dimensional stability for production, and reduced costs. It was a home run for Purina’s Beneful brand.
