An iconic brand demands iconic packaging. Gerber Products Company is undoubtedly the iconic brand in baby food. Their rice cereal had been in a fiberboard package since its initial release to the market in 1939. When more than a facelift was needed to upgrade the package, Gerber chose Silgan Specialty Packaging as their development partner.
Through two years and over 100 design revisions, the new rigid package evolved. Silgan Specialty Packaging developed a new sculpted, rectangular flip door closure to mate with an ergonomically friendly, multi-layer bottle. The closure features two audible click features. First, let parents know the lid is securely fastened to the container. The second is to indicate the dispensing door is in a locked open position for easy pouring and measuring.
The Result: This new packaging, coupled with over a dozen new cereal recipes, has been a hit with moms, dads, and most importantly, babies everywhere. Gerber has seen record demands and continues to release new flavors to give consumers more reasons to keep buying.
